Focus 2020

In IN5590-2020 we will design, simulate, optimize, assemble and program a walking foot. The foot will consist of 2 bones with a given length. The students can choose between two types of muscles: regular pneumatic cylinders, and artificial muscles of type McKibben. The course will end with a design competition where there will be rewards for fastest running foot or most aesthetic design

  • CAD: solid modeling, assembly, physics/FEM simulation
  • Shape optimization
  • 3D printing by FDM/SLS
  • Actuators/sensor/control: pneumatics, Arduino, pressure sensor

Evaluation / requirements

  • IN5590 has no final examination, but all sub projects, demonstrations, competitions and 80% attendance at lectures must be approved to pass
  • IN5590 has a final "pass"/"no pass" grade, but the results and rankings from the mandatory competitions, and online designs documentation can be used as a part of your CV
  • All deliveries are individual but some collaboration is recommended
